Growing different varieties allows us to extend the season of fruit harvest and, in doing so, we aim to meet our high standards and ensure your satisfaction when purchasing from our market. One great example is the idea that Red Haven is the best peach. While this is partially true, there are so many “undistinguished” varieties that we enjoy, such as Madison and Messina. They ripen after Red Haven, are just as juicy and flavorful as their widely known counterpart and help us prolong our peach season.

Other varieties like white peaches are vastly different from Red Haven. White peaches include Saturn (donut peaches). With their “low acid/high sugar” combination, they lack the acid of a Red Haven and are far more sweet. In other words, they don’t have more sugar but instead less acid to balance the sugar, creating a desirable yet atypical peach flavor.

eating Peaches

Peaches should always be left out of the refrigerator before eating at home. Refrigeration is recommended if they are fully ripe but you don't plan on eating them right away, however, with that comes the sacrifice of potential juice and flavor. We harvest peaches as they begin to ripen but before they turn soft and juicy. Pictured is a peach that was soft at harvest. Because peaches bruise easily and require such gentle care, it is imperative that they are firm enough to hold up when we pick them. Once harvested they are stored in our cooler where they are kept for up to several weeks. They come out of cold storage 1-3 days before we sort them and put them out for sale, and during this time they will reach their peak in ripeness, juiciness and flavor.

Sage-Grown

We grow what we like to eat. A variety of fruits is always fun but having a new variety of your favorite fruit is better. We pick our corn daily first thing in the morning so it is always fresh.
