Eleanor M. (Nee: Timmons) Sage, age 97 of Chardon, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 21, 2021. She was born to Robert and Edna (nee: Davis) Timmons, October 11, 1923.
Eleanor grew up on the Timmons dairy farm in Auburn Township and participated in many 4-H activities in her youth. After graduation from Auburn High School she attended Ohio State School of Economics, and graduated with a B.S. degree in Home Economics. She taught home economics for two years at Newbury, and two years splitting the day between Newbury and Bainbridge schools. She attended Cornell University for a summer and then was a Home Extension agent in Portage County for two years.
Eleanor met Allen R. Sage at The Ohio State University. They were married in 1951 and started their journey supporting their family and operating Sage’s Apples. Eleanor enjoyed the daily interaction with the customers and employees during her years operating the Sage’s Apples Farm Market. She also enjoyed giving tours to school children, picking berries in the early morning, and taking care of the flower beds around the market. She donated apples for fundraisers and community events for many years. She enjoyed trips to Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, Myrtle Beach and New Zealand.
Eleanor was a long-time member of the Chardon United Methodist Church. Over the years she was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and in Women’s Fellowship.
Eleanor has been involved in The Great Geauga County Fair in some capacity since 1941. She was on the Fair Board for one year, the apple pie judge, judge for baked goods, and 4-H Sewing Club advisor for many years. In 2017, she was the Grand Marshall of the Chardon Maple Festival.
Most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eleanor is survived by her children: Robert and Linda (Wingate) Sage, John and Karen (Humphrey) Sage, and Jayne Sage of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Grandchildren: Ben (Polly) Sage of Chardon, Jordan Sage of Denver, Colorado, Andrew (Terra) Sage of Appleton, Wisconsin, Stephanie (Adam) Thomas of Mentor, Cory (Melissa) Sage of Brookline, New Hampshire, and Tim (Taylor Tate) Sage of Ithaca, New York.
She is survived by nine great grandchildren (Dakota, David, Elisabeth, Walker, Alden, Miles, Oak, Jackson, and Ellanora) and her sister-in-law Clare Ann Timmons (Sis), Newbury, Ohio.
Her husband Allen preceded her in death in 1988. Eleanor was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Edna (Davis) Timmons, her brothers Richard and George Timmons and her sister-in-law Ruth (nee: Lowe) Timmons.
They will receive friends and family, Thursday, August 24rd from 11:00am to 2:00 pm at the Chardon United Methodist Church. A service will be held at 2:00 pm with interment at the Chardon Municipal Cemetery following the service.
